Moms who desire a natural childbirth, sometimes choose ‘water birth.’ It is the process of giving birth in a tub of warm water and is very soothing, comforting, and relaxing. Waterbirth provides an environment similar to the amniotic sac. The buoyancy promotes more efficient uterine contractions and improved blood circulation resulting in less pain for the mother, and more oxygen for the baby. Immersion in water also helps in lowering the high blood pressure of mother which may occur due to anxiety.

Kalki Koechlin On Her Pregnancy

Mom-to-be Kalki Koechlin feels that the pregnancy has made her more patient. In one of her recent interviews, she said- “I already feel the changes in the way I react to things. I am more deliberate, slower, more patient. When motherhood comes eventually, it brings with it a new consciousness to your sense of a person. I still want to work but it is less about the rat race and more about nurturing oneself through one’s work. It becomes about infusing concentration and energy inward.”

I know pregnancy is a celebration of life, and we pregnant women are meant to be grateful and sensitive and glowing throughout, and mostly I've had a healthy, safe and wonderful journey so far, but it is by far not an easy ride, it is not all butterflies and unicorns, and many days are so tough I want to crawl into bed and disappear. So I made this poster based on some of my diary notes of the last 8 months just so the non pregnant people can get a glimpse into what we are going through and may be curious enough to research further and be better prepared to help someone who is carrying. Roughly: The pink is the first trimester The white is the second The red is the third The boxes are the physical symptoms The bubbles around are my feelings and thoughts at that moment

Kalki keeps herself fit with a regular walk and has also reduced the use of mobile phones. She is taking multiple classes in Hypno and music therapy, prenatal yoga, swimming and exercises at the naturalist and holistic centre nestled in greenery.

“If I do not remain active, I will only be snacking and doing Google searches on babies and pregnancies. As D-day draws closer, it is natural to become anxious. But I am not thinking too much, just taking it one day at a time,” she added.
